Try to register the shortest domain name your customers and visitors will associate with your Website. Although some domains can be very long, you have to keep in mind that people need to be able to remember it, and easily type it into their browser.The general rule of thumb is to keep it under seven characters if possible. (Not including the suffix.)

Which Domain Extension?

There are 2 main types of extension classes (known as Top-Level Domain's). gTLD's (general Top-Level Domain's) and ccTLD's (country-code Top-Level Domain's)

Presently, users have a limited range of 21 gTLD's to choose from — names that you may be familiar with like .com, .org, .info and .biz

There are approx 240 ccTLD's to choose from. ccTLD's you may be familiar with are .co.uk, .co.in, .cn, .us, .de, .it

For businesses, we recommend a gTLD such as .com or .biz

Additionally registering your ccTLD is advised, for example: UK Based = .co.uk, India Based = .co.in, China Based = .cn

One May Not Be Enough

Sometimes it is a good idea to register several similar domain names, particularly if you own a trademark for a certain name. If you have "yourname.com", register "yourname.co.uk" so no one else takes it. You can register your company name and a shorter, easier to remember version. Some people even register common misspellings of their company's name. You don't need a separate web page for each domain registration, several domains can point to the same website using domain name mappings.
